Everything you need to know

What makes Wishd special?

Twenty people chip in. Everywhere else, you get a number.

That's how group gifting usually goes, and the strange thing is nobody minds. It's just how it's always been. But every one of those people had something they'd have said out loud if they'd been standing in front of you.

Wishd is where that goes. Each gift stays wrapped until you open it, one at a time: a face, a voice, a few words meant only for you. By the end you haven't just been given something. You've been told, by everyone, why you matter.

Is Wishd free?

Creating a Wishd is free, and sending a reel or a message costs nothing at all. If you send a cash gift, one Wishd fee is added on top at checkout (much less than the cost of a card and wrapping paper), so the full amount you chose reaches the recipient. A £20.00 gift costs £21.11.

What Wishd doesn't charge for

Moving money to a bank. Holding a gift fund. Leaving it unclaimed. There's no tip screen either. Our one fee is taken when the gift is made, and the recipient receives the full amount you chose.

Do I need to create an account to send something?

Only if you are organising a Wishd. Gifters can send cash gifts, reels and messages with a link from the organiser, so no account is needed. Recipients don't need to sign up either.

Can I take part without giving money?

Yes, and it's free. Reels and messages are gifts, and plenty of Wishds are made entirely of them.

Where does the money go before the event day?

It depends on how far away the day is. If it's more than 30 days out, nothing is taken yet: you enter your card on Stripe's secure page, Stripe keeps it, and the payment is made 30 days before the event. If it's within 30 days, you pay at checkout. Either way the money is held in Wishd's Stripe account until the recipient claims it. On event day the recipient receives their reveal link, and opening it triggers a secure claim link for cash gifts. The money reaches their bank once they've verified their details with Stripe. Where the organiser is buying the gift, they can release the gift fund from 30 days before the event, once contributions have been paid. Reels and messages still reach the recipient on the event day.

When is my card charged?

If the event is within 30 days, at checkout. If it's further away, you enter your card once on Stripe's secure page and nothing is taken that day: Stripe saves the card and charges it 30 days before the event, for exactly the total you were shown. We email you when you set it up, three days before the charge, and if your bank ever asks you to confirm it. Wishd never sees or stores your card details.

Is it safe to send money?

Payments are handled by Stripe, one of the world's largest payment processors. Wishd never sees or stores your card details.

Who holds the money?

Stripe does. Contributions sit in Wishd's account at Stripe, an FCA-authorised payment institution, until the gift fund is claimed, and Stripe moves them to the recipient's own Stripe account when it is. Wishd never sees or stores your card details.

When does the recipient see it all?

On the event day, so everything lands at once.

Who sees what I've written or recorded?

Your reel and message go to the recipient, and to the person who set up the Wishd. Other gifters never see them. They only see who's taken part.

What if someone sends something inappropriate?

Every reel and message can be reported by the recipient, the organiser, or the person who sent it. A report hides it immediately, for everyone, and sends it to us to review; we then remove it for good or put it back. Until the event date, the organiser can also delete any reel or message directly, and where a Wishd is for a child, the parent or guardian who set it up can preview every reel and message and delete any of them before the child sees anything. From the event date, or from the moment the gift fund is claimed if that comes first, nothing can be edited or deleted by anyone, including the organiser: reporting is the only way to take something down, and it works at every stage, including on the day itself. All reels are deleted for good 30 days after the event date.

What if only one person takes part?

That's still a Wishd. One gift, one reel or one message unlocks on the day exactly the same way.

Can I change things after sharing the link?

You can update your own reel or message until the event date (or, where the organiser is buying the gift, until they release the fund), and the organiser can move the date. Once gifts have been charged and the event is within 30 days, the date can only be brought forward, not moved later; otherwise it moves freely. Bringing it forward to today sends the reveal straight away. On the event date everything unlocks for the recipient, and no more changes can be made.

What if the recipient never claims it?

We send reminders at 10, 21 and 27 days. If it's still unclaimed after 30 days, everything goes back to the original cards automatically: the gift in full, plus the Wishd fee less the payment costs already incurred, with nothing deducted for holding it.

How long are the reels kept?

Reels, messages and thank-you videos are kept for 30 days after the event date and then permanently deleted. There's no separate reminder before that, so save anything you want to keep within those 30 days.
